Structural Project Engineer

Job Summary

planB is seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer who wishes to join a team that supports professional growth. The position will interface with the wide range of clients served by Plan B Engineering, ranging from Owners and Design Professionals (Architects and Engineers) to General Contractors, Sub/Specialty Contractors, Building/Code officials and a variety of other providers.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and contractors to develop coordinated design solutions for all stages of construction (existing, temporary, new)
  • Process calculations for all materials (steel, concrete, aluminum, wood, cold formed steel) and proprietary pre‐engineered components and construction equipment (scaffold, hoists, wire rope, rigging, etc.)
  • Coordinate designs with all applicable codes, standards, and manufacturer data
  • Develop structural details for technical accuracy and produce drawings to graphically convey construction processes.
  • Interact with a wide variety of clients via written, verbal and in person communications.
  • Operate independently and efficiently to manage a wide variety of projects to completion
  • Perform field support via site visits
  • Foster company standards for quality assurance.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

Desired Skills and Experience

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited University
  • 7+ years minimum experience in structural engineering design - P.E. is highly preferred.
  • Field experience and knowledge of temporary structural systems is beneficial
  • Proficiency in structural design software, AutoCAD and standard computer utilization programs
  • Knowledge of structural concepts, building codes (experience with NYC Building Code is a plus)
  • Candidate must demonstrate personal accountability, self-management, independent problem solving capabilities and the ability to multitask
  • Strong Written, verbal and technical communication skills

Structural Designer

Job Summary

planB is seeking a Structural Designer for immediate employment in Huntingdon Valley, PA. This position will join a team developing the designs for temporary structures, with opportunities to work on high‐profile projects and with potential for job growth.The successful candidate must be willing to work in a highly energized design environment, and will at times need to put in extra effort to meet tight deadlines.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:  
  • Surveying and documenting existing site conditions and functional requirements  
  • Preparing sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, working drawings, and developing details in  conjunction with an understanding and interaction with a wide variety of existing project  documentation
  • Participating in the design process, with an emphasis onthe preparation of drawings and graphics to express the project’s design intent
  • Producing rendered plans, sections, elevations, concept diagrams and 3D modeling through the  use of AutoCAD, Revit, Google SketchUp, and 3D Max Studio presentation tools Performing routine applications involving the use of computer‐aided software
  • Working under the direction of a Principal, Associate, and Project Manager    

Desired Skills and Experience

Minimum Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or CAD
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Must have skills in AutoCAD, Revit, Google SketchUp, 3D Max Studio and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organization and documentation skills    
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or CAD
  • Experience with steel detailing and fabrication
  • Navisworks clash detection check experience is preferred
  • Strong graphics skills with programs such as Revit, 3D Max Studio and Google SketchUp
